We believe a high quality Early Years experience provides a firm foundation on which to build future academic, social and emotional success.
We provide a caring, safe, and happy environment to help your child feel secure and confident.
All the children in our care are encouraged to learn, play and socialise with others and then flourish through their own individual strengths.
We work with each child to help fulfil their potential, at their own pace
Story time helps to develop the children’s understanding of language and encourages them to ask and answer simple questions
All of our rooms are fresh and stimulating. We passionately believe that day nurseries should feel like a 'home from home' for your little one.
Children love their time in the nursery’s well-appointed outdoor spaces. The large forest school area provides an invaluable learning environment where children can explore nature, partake in forest school activities, search for insects, and bird watch.
Messy play is extremely important for a child's development. It provides children with an exciting tactile and sensory experience that inspires their curiosity, allows them to explore the world around them and enhances their learning, language and creativity.
We will be holding our annual Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday 19 July at 10.30 am
We will be giving out certificates to commemorate the success of our departing pre-school children and celebrate the milestone of the completion of their time at nursery, before heading off to ‘Big School’ in September.
We are so proud of our children and are glad that they are equally proud of themselves for what they have achieved, and how much they have grown, in every sense of the word.
A nursery Graduation is a very special time in a child’s life.
This celebration marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another, as they start school.
This is a great light-hearted event where everybody is welcome; mom, dad, grandparents, aunties and uncles.
Hopefully, the weather will be kind to us and we will hold the event in the nursery garden.
Refreshments will be served afterwards.
The Graduation Party will be on Friday July 21
We look forward to seeing you.
In September 2022 we embarked on a journey towards accreditation for the ‘Curiosity Approach,’ which is a new and innovative way of teaching young children.
This teaching method allows children to direct their own learning by ‘igniting their natural curiosity and imagination.’
It takes inspiration from various educational theories such as Regio Emilia, and focuses on natural materials, neutral calm tones and wooden objects and artefacts, rather than the typical plastic toys so common in many nurseries.
Since we embarked on our policy we have transformed our setting.
Gone are the loud, bold colours.
We have painted our setting in neutral colours to create a calm, soothing environment. Gone are the plastic toys and instead children are presented with ordinary real-life items made of wood or other natural materials.
This encourages the child to create their own toys to play with, essentially ‘going back to basics’ and using their own imagination to figure out what each item is for and how to use it, rather than being given a toy with a fixed identity which essentially shapes how a child will play with it.
The Curiosity Approach gives the children the ability to shape the play rather than the toy shaping and limiting their play.
We are trying to create a ‘home from home’ experience which is completely play-based and led by the child.
The clue is in the name.
The philosophy is centred around the natural innate curiosity which we are all born with. We aim to provide children with a calm, stress-free environment with open-ended resources which allow children to work things out for themselves.
When using loose parts, children are given the opportunity to use their imagination and their creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills - and more - to teach themselves.
We use authentic resources, wooden items, baskets, etc., to handle, explore and investigate, providing children with a safe space during early childhood which makes them feel supported.
That, in turn, makes them become more confident, competent and inquisitive learners.
A Curiosity Approach Nursery is fully play-based and each child is led by their own curiosity. Early childhood is seen as a time in itself and not just preparation for school.
Children’s natural curiosity and wonder for life and the wonderful world around them is enhanced and allowed to be stretched, creating the ‘thinkers’ and the ‘doers’ of the future.
We have a continuous provision which is based on our children’s next steps. This is available all day, every day, inside and outside in our gardens.
This is full of purposely chosen items to inspire children, to enable playing opportunities and perfect age-appropriate skills whilst giving independence and accessing opportunities across the whole Early Years Foundation Stage.
We then support this by setting up ‘provocations’ or ‘invitations to play.’ They introduce children to new ideas and skills but are very different to ‘activities’ which can often have a set outcome.
The provocation has has an intention which is open-ended and can be played with in any way the child chooses.
What we offer at Unicorn provides children with the time and the skills they require to become confident, independent and capable learners.
If you would like any more information, please feel free to get in touch or come and visit us to see this wonderful learning taking place.
We look after babies as young as six weeks into their first year.
The time that they move into the next room is individualised and is usually around the time they become mobile
The toddler room caters for two-to-three year old children who have moved up from the Baby Room. It is our little 'home from home' for the toddlers.
It is in this room that we prepare our three-to-four year old children for school. Your pre-schooler is encouraged to live their nursery life to the full; exploring, experimenting and learning through play.
Our children just love this area. We have a tinker board, sensory writing table, talking tubes, musical instruments, treasure baskets and scented bags to engage the children's sensory play.
A new addition to our outdoor resources is our magnificent new galleon. The children are totally fascinated by it, and we look forward to seeing many generations of pirates enjoying hours and hours of fun sailing the Spanish Main, here in Maesbury.
Our little allotments for the children to grow their own vegetables including beans, potatoes, carrots and beetroot, radish and lettuce.
Our outdoor obstacle course encourages a full body workout and develops strength and balance. Complete with smiles and giggles.

Nothing is more important than your child's health, and at Unicorn we do our best to protect it.
Our menus are carefully planned and freshly prepared on site by our two dedicated nursery chefs (We follow the guidelines detailed by the Children's Food Trust).
Our menus are displayed prominently in the nurseries and on our website, and our chefs work closely with parents if there is a specific dietary requirement for their child.
When we talk and listen to a child we help them to have a voice. Having a voice that is heard is the most powerful safeguarding tool a child can have.
If you have any concerns about keeping children safe or any questions about our safeguarding policy and procedures, come and see a member of our safeguarding team. Having freedom to make choices also means the child has the freedom to say ‘No!’ or ‘Stop! I don’t like it!’
At Unicorn Nursey Measbury we want all of our children to be confident enough to make choices.
